Broke near the 1450m checking a trailing runner and lost ground. Over-raced down the back the final time. Broke again near the 400m losing its chance. A warning was also placed on this runner's racing manners.

Shifted out rounding the final turn when Driver Z Butcher was encountering some difficulty activating the deafeners. When questioned regarding the performance Trainer R Green advised that the gelding may be feeling the effects of recent racing.

BETA PREPARE - shifted in when leading passing the 1200m when appearing to shy and raced over several track markers having to be corrected by Driver D Butcher. Authorisation of this runner's 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that any inconvenience to trailing runners had not affected the outcome of the race. Trainer J Young (SPIRITED PEGGY - 2nd place) declined the opportunity to protest and all clear was then given on the Judge's placings.

BARBAROSSA - raced wide early. Broke near the 900m when being steadied off the back of WICKED WANDA with the offside connecting strap breaking whilst in the gallop. The gelding settled quickly but was not persevered with. This gear was inspected and had found to have been in satisfactory condition. Driver T Herlihy reported that the gelding had been striking its own sulky wheel discs.

BARBAROSSA - over-raced middle stages. Lay out near the 600m contacting and puncturing the sulky wheel of CONRAD H and then broke with the near hind hopple loop breaking losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Driver K Coppins (assisted by T Mitchell) was shown the replay and spoken to advisedly in relation to the manner in which she drove in the incident near the 600m. Ms Coppins advised that BARBAROSSA had been contacting its own sulky wheel with a hind leg causing it to over-race.

Driver A Poutama was issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) on the grounds that he drove carelessly approaching the first turn by allowing his gelding to shift inwards placing SUNSHINE SHELBY in restricted room resulting in DOM TORETTO being forced down on to track markers and breaking as a result. Mr Poutama indicated that he would be defending the charge with the matter being adjourned sine die by the Adjudicator.

BLAZING LOUIE - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the birdcage prior to entering the track after slipping over damaging the sulky. Stewards further requested a veterinary examination when the horse arrived at the start with the gelding being cleared to race.
